How does Yoga Build Pain tolerance?

By admin | Uncategorized

Yoga Building Pain Tolerance

Out of great many benefits of Yoga, is the one that is called “dvandva sahanam” which means we are able to withstand the extremes. Now when look at concept of pain, pain is a form of suffering where we are unable to allow resources of our body to face the challenges that it receives.

Some of these challenges are coming from within us, some of these challenges are coming from outside us, some of these challenges areexpected, some of these challenges areunexpected.

Now in this conflicting environment where the dualities of life are pulling us from one side to the other if we don’t remain centered and anchored, we will eventually collapse and when we are not actually centered we suffer with pain whether it is:

  • Physical pain
  • Emotional pain
  • Psychological pain.

Yoga helps us to reconnect with our core strength in our heart and in our gutand therefore bring in the capacity to be stable even in an unstable environment and when we can remain stable when things around us are unstable we will have a great tolerance towards the dualities and therefore to pain.

That’s how yoga helps us to build tolerance towards the extremes of life which make our life often challenging.

I registered for the 4-years Yoga Therapy Training from KHYF with Sri TKV Desikachar and Dr. Kausthub Desikachar. Although it was a big challenge, it was one of the best decisions I made in my life. Diving into the aspects of Yoga in a deep and subtle way gave me great confidence for my own teaching. This I felt especially in the one-to-one classes during the training and the internship in India.

I can highly recommend the profound Yoga Therapy Training from KHYF with Dr. Kausthub Desikachar. The teachings come from the source and are rooted in an ancient tradition in the lineage of great Yogacaryas.

I am deeply grateful that I had this opportunity.

The Seven Cakra-s | Exploring the Energy Centres

03 – 05 MAY 2019
Venue | BAYFIELD, ONTARIO, CANADA

The Yogin-s understood the human body differently from how we perceive it today. Apart from understanding it as a complex physiological structure, the Yogin-s also realized that we are made up of an intricate subtle body. An important part of this subtle entity is the major energy centers known as Cakra-s, which are linked together through subtle channels called the Näòi-s. Each of these Cakra-s is associated with vital physiological and emotional functions. Hence the Yogin-s firmly believed that any imbalance in the Cakra-s could result in physiological and emotional illness and vice versa.

The Power of Yoga | Exploring Asana & Pranayama & Their Energetic potentials

09-11 Nov 2018
Venue | Sydney, Australia

Throughout the world, numerous practitioners of Yoga are beginning to venture into the non-physical dimensions of Yoga. People now realize that the tools of Yoga are far more profound than superficial gross movements and postures. When Äsana is looked at as merely physical practices and Pranayama as simply breath regulation exercises, Yoga doesn’t seem to offer all the answers to the intelligent modern seeker. Such serious seekers are now turning to the Viniyoga® tradition of Äcärya T Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar for deeper insights into Yogic practices.

MUDRA-S & BANDHA-S | Las Herramientas Sutiles Del Yoga.

Fri, Apr 27, 2018 2:00 PM Sun, Apr 29, 2018 3:00 PM
Venue | Barcelona, Spain

Mudras & Bandhas | Exploring The Subtle Tools Of Yoga

Fri, May 4, 2018 9:00 AM Sun, May 6, 2018 5:00 PM
Venue | Bayfield, Ontario, Canada

The limitless human potential is often deeply hidden within us, not just beneath our psyche, but also within the layers of conscious and unconscious patterning. Unlocking them to fully manifest into our lives is a key aspect of personal growth and spiritual development. This process requires sustained effort and the practice of powerful tools, under careful guidance and supervision. The role of Mudra-s & Bandha-s can serve as a vital instrument in this process of personal evolution. Mudra-s are very intricate tools of Yoga, that harness the fire within us to help nourish the inherent seeds of our capabilities. They are discussed extensively in classical texts such as Hathayogapradipika & Siva Samhita, as well as modern classics such as Yoga Makaranda of T Krishnamacharya.

When appropriately practiced together with a sophisticated system of breath and visualization, Mudra-s & Bandha-s touch different layers of the human system and aid in our positive transformation. Owing to the great power it can harness, the Yogi-s showed great respect to these tools and only learnt and practiced under watchful guidance. They also understood and considered all the pre-requisites these tools required, before practicing themselves or teaching them to others.

This enriching seminar will explore the most important Mudrä-s in detail, presenting the core principles and frameworks within which they must be understood and practiced. The program will deal with presenting pre-requisites for the practice of each Mudrä, the technical nuances of their practice, benefits, and contraindications.

The seminar will present previously unknown material on these very subtle concepts of Yoga and how to apply them carefully in personal practice or in the practice of students. This seminar will be most useful to serious practitioners of Yoga, as well as Yoga Teachers and Trainers who are wanting to take their practice to the next level. Guidelines of self-observation on the effects of such practices will also be provided and participants will also be offered opportunities to explore these further.

All these chants have a unique melody and power, and transport us to domains that are beyond the material and metaphysical.

This experiential weekend seminar taught in a serene and safe environment will explore these topics in a manner that honors tradition while making it relevant for our modern times. We warmly invite you to engage in this very special retreat to begin or sustain your spiritual journey.

Testimonial

Since I committed to Yoga practices under the mentoring of Dr. Kausthub Desikachar, I not only found a stable and reassuring refuge, but also an extraordinary field of exploration where I feel guided. I can integrate hese teachings in my every day bit by bit, and they are for me like a headlight in the fog, a flashlight in the dark : precious to move forward into life and so bright!

Tribute to TKV Desikachar

By admin |

Celebrating Sir

14th TO 15th January 2017

Chennai, India

On the 14th and 15th of January 2017,  students from all around the world gathered at the Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation in order to honor Sir TKV Desikachar’s life and work.

It was a profound, heartful and beautiful ceremony in which students and teachers of the Yoga community remembered a great man and his expansive teachings. Everyone who came had the great pleasure to hear stories and examples from those who had been touched by his example.

We want to especially thank the speakers of both days, Sri D R Karthikeeyan, Smt Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani, Sri A V Balu, Mrs Sonia Nelson, Ishwar Basarvaraddi, Dr. Arjun Rajagopal, Dri S Sridharan, Sri Subodh Tiwari, Dr. Usha Raghavan, Mrs Kate Holcombe for sharing their experiences and impressions of one of the great legends of Yoga with the community and for bringing his spirit alive through the stories and feelings shared on both days.

Ishwar Basarvaraddi, director of the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, reminded the audience that a true Yogi like T.K.V. Desikachar doesnt strive for fame, yet becomes famous because of his good deeds. Smt. Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani, head of the Gitananda Ashram and Director of the International Centre for Yoga Education and Research, remembered Desikachar’s great dedication to the teachings of his guru and father T. Krishnamacharya and his lifelong efforts and dedication to spread them. D R Kaarthikeyan, former CBI Director and former Director General of the National Human Rights Commission, stressed that Sir was a great yet simple yogi, an example we should all follow. A V Balu, Director of the Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems, worked with Desikachar for years, not just as a student but also as the editor of the magazine “Darsanam”. He told stories about the generosity of Desikachar, that he would always give even his own watches away to his students and that he never had an ego when his articles were edited. Sonia Nelson, Director of the Vedic Chant Centre in the USA, explained how Sir always treated each student differently according to their needs and potentials and how much he cared for his students.

Dr. Arjun Rajagopal, trustee of the Sundaram Medical Foundation and physician, remembered that Desikachar was incredibly pragmatic, always open for finding the best solution in any case that required healing. He wasnt rejecting medicine but always sought out to find the best solution for each of his students and each case. Sri S Sridharan, trustee of the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, stressed how much Sir guided him on his spiritual path. It became clear to the audience what an immense spectrum Sir provided to his students, some he taught yoga therapy, others sutras, some more pragmatic knowledge how to deal with life and others the path of the Yogi as a spiritual connection. Dr. Usha Raghavan, a medical doctor of the Cancer institute and long term student, narrated how Desikachar was able to detect the potentials in students and taught them to bring these strengths and potentials forward. And Kate Holcombe, executive director of the Healing Yoga Foundation, shared that he was not just a teacher, but like a father for her and how much she learnt from him not just through his teachings, but also by spending time with him and by being in his presence. She told how detached he was from other people’s mistakes or negative actions and how he knew that it is not important to judge others but to instead only focus on what we do ourself.

All people who gathered for the event celebrated two beautiful, emotional, humbling and very touching days. Thanks to all people that came to pay their respects and to our team who organized an amazing honoring for our teacher. May we never forget the teachings in our life, and may we never forget the teachers before us who humbly walked the path before us and guid us eternally. Namaste.
