Pitta Prakopa Cikitsa | Understanding and Alleviating Pitta Disorders

PITTA PRAKOPA CIKITSA | UNDERSTANDING AND ALLEVIATING PITTA DISORDERS

Although Yoga Therapy is gaining worldwide recognition, very little is known today about how exactly the Yogi-s understood health and healing. An important point to remember is that Yoga’s holistic tools were based on traditional understanding of human body, and not based on modern medical science, which did not even exist at that time.

So an important aspect of Yoga Therapy practice, must involve the understanding of this subtle science, so that the tools of Yoga can be carefully and appropriately utilised. This includes the interpretation of the unique and dynamic nature of the the three fundamental humours of the body – Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

Pitta Prakopa is a term generally used to indicate the disturbance of Pitta, or the fire-based homour. An entire collection of illnesses ranging from skin disorders, heart conditions, metabolic disorders and many stress related conditions are attributed to this cause. The significance of this in the modern era is especially relevant as we are living in a very stress-dominant era. Pitta itself has five sub-types and each have a role to perform.

Observing this imbalance, understanding the causes and the appropriate application of holistic and optimal practices, forms a core component of Yoga Therapy in addressing these conditions.

This weekend seminar will dive deep into this topic and offer practical insights into understanding the field of Pitta Prakopa disorders. The seminar will be mostly useful to Yoga Teachers and Yoga Therapists, or those in training, who wish to apply these principles for themselves or for those who they teach one-to-one. It will constitute insightful theoretical presentations, as well as profound practice sessions. It will also be invaluable to those who are considering delving further into the authentic teachings of Yogacarya T Krishnamacharya & TKV Desikachar.

This seminar will be presented by Dr. Kausthub Desikachar, the current lineage holder of the Yoga Teaching tradition of Yogacarya T Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar. He is an acclaimed yoga teacher,  yoga therapist, healer and spiritual mentor. His objectives include the sharing of the authentic teachings of Yoga to the modern era, as well as building bridges between different healing modalities to promote physical, emotional social and spiritual health.
